When you hear the phrase “sense of urgency” what comes to your mind? Like something is urgent? Right? But what does urgent mean, like something that needs to be done right away? Then why you cannot say do it urgently? Or how the “sense of urgency” is a bit different from “urgently”?
If I have to explain in one line, what sense of urgency means, it would be simply put as “completing the daily tasks”. Seems pretty straightforward right?
However, there is more to it. With the variable work that you have, you might not be getting a simple list of tasks that you need to do on the daily basis, the task list changes each day based on your business priorities and objectives. In that scenario, what “sense of urgency” will mean? The typical 9 hours workday is enough to complete your daily tasks, however, with the everyday changing requirements, you must ensure that all the tasks that you need to do that day are completed and you are not leaving anything for the next day. This might take 1-2 hours extra for that day, but here are some benefits that you are going to get out of it.
Benefits:
- People will trust you and you will build credibility to get the things done. Remember, building credibility is crucial for growth.
- Your next day will be more organized and planned. You will not be thinking about getting the work done which was left yesterday. You will be more productive.
- You will feel happy that you have achieved all your daily targets.
- You will meet the project goals and deadlines.
